Weekly Exclusive Report from Trivandrum Port, Kerala - Issue #03

27th January 2025 - 2nd February 2025

CEO Adani Ports (Pranav Choudhary)

Although the nameplate capacity of the first phase is 1.2m, we will ramp it up to 1.5m TEU with the semi-automation. By the end of January, we will handle about 3 lakh TEU containers.
In addition to the container, we also would do non- container business. We would do liquid Cargo, there will be a tank farm, there will be a warehousing Zone. All of that is part of Phase 2. We are committed to deliver Phase 2 by December 2028
The connectivity would get further integrated and multiplied manyfold. You would end up serving the hopefully very soon to the American continent and Australia/Oceania as well.
What we want to do in the immediate next two months is start doing Import/Export cargo, which bring in additional revenue ta the state
Another opportunity we are looking at is trying to build a sea to air transhipment hub. We have an airport right next to us.

MD, MSC India (Capt Deepak Tewari)

Vizhinjam is the port of the future. It's already technically has been built and operated as a port of the future.

Vizhinjam means that we actually have a Transhipment port in India. And the cherry on the cake is that this transhipment port will also handle hinterland cargo both for exports as well as for imports. I'm talking about containers. The importance is the location and services that are rendered to the south and east coast of India.

You probably know MSC competed 130 ships now, 23000+ TEUs. We also started our feeder networks to start touching Vizhinjam port. This is thanks to the two gentlemen who are here from the head office in MSC Geneva. They are the ones, who actually programmed and scheduled with our operations team the feeder networks to touch Vizhinjam as well.

So not only the mother vessels but also the feeder vessels, so that we actually give a proper service to the trade for this hinterland and for south and east India. We connected Kolkata and Haldia via Vizhinam to the globe, which was not done earlier.

For the future, I look forward to the cruise terminal that is likely to be planned in Vizhinjam, because our company also has nearly 20 cruise vessels. We are very very excited at the opportunity here. And we hope it grows.

Vizhinjam is going to be very very important. Extremely important. And MSC, we started here, and we're gonna be here, we'll be growing here, and we'll ensure that the growth is shared amongst everyone.

CEO Adani Vizhinjam Port Private Ltd. (Pradeep Jayaraman)

The larger plan is, with the kind of capacity that we are building in, making it truly a multi cargo, it will have MSC + other shipping lines, we already had a few Maersk calls. With 2 Km of berth and maybe something which the state government needs to seriously think about is, it can further be extended by another 2 Kms if needed.
